Improv Jam: Thursday 15th March 2012

This week’s jam: An Improv Storyteller’s Toolkit

This week’s jam is run by Trilly.

The theme of this week’s jam is harnessing and honing our innate gift for storytelling, and looking at ways to do so in the heat of the improvised moment.

We’ll be doing a mix of games and exercises that focus on recognising, continuing, heightening, and advancing aspects of a scene that might turn it into an entertaining, captivating and perhaps even funny story.

In the quest for the long lost enchanted narrative, we will arm and array ourselves with the legendary virtues of acceptance, attentiveness and additive imagination…

On this perilous journey, we will find friend, foe and fate in the common archetypes of classical mythology…

Our adventure will culminate in a furious flourish of scenes spawned from an exercise in mind-reading…

Forget your ‘once-upon-a-times’ and ‘happily-ever-afters’ – the real story is what happens when grand designs meet grave difficulties…

See you there!

Usual place & time:
The Blue Room, TAO Nottingham, Station Street, Nottingham
Thursday 8th March 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Improv Jam: Thursday 8th 2012

This week’s jam: BRING IT ON (again)

This week’s jam is run by Nick.

In the last Bring It On jam we got shoved into making choices we wouldn’t normally make – time jumps, Oscar moments, monologues. And far from trashing the scenes as we feared it gave them extra dimensions and even greater awesome. This week we’re going to continue pounding those moves into our fragile improv skulls and maybe tossing a few more things in that wouldn’t come naturally. Required: focus, enthusiasm and an ability to Bring It On. For further energy – watch the trailer. You know you want to.

Usual place & time:
The Blue Room, TAO Nottingham, Station Street, Nottingham
Thursday 8th March 7.30pm – 9.30pm

MissImp in London Sunday 11th March

Yes that’s right, we’re upping sticks for a Sunday and travelling to far off London, home of tall buildings, unacknowledged immigrant workers and broken dreams. We’re taking part in Impro Fest UK, a seven day festival of improvisation (as the name suggests). The whole festival is at the intriguing Lion and Unicorn Theatre in Kentish Town and organised by Sprout Ideas, Rolling Sky and Giant Olive Theatre Company.

We’ll be joining a host of fabulous improv groups from, well mainly London. East Midlands reprazent. There’s loads of ace stuff to see, so if you’re in London get your improv wick well and truly dipped.
