Improv Jam: Thursday 12 April 2012

This week’s jam: The Open The Door Jam

This week’s jam is run by me: Parky.

Hello all.  This is going to be a fun fun fun jam with lots of opportunity to do some lovely open scenes.  This jam is based on two things: agreement and using a ‘prop’ to generate ideas for scenes.  In this case, the prop is as simple as a door.  We’ll learn how doors can provide great inspiration for open scenes and how the power of agreement can immediately turn an open scene into something marvellous.  Do come along and enjoy!

Really important: we are not at TAO Nottingham this week. As with last week’s jam, we’re in the nice place at 39 Stoney St. Apart from that, it’ll be the usual shenanigans.

Improv Jam: Thursday 5th April 2012

This week’s jam: BRING IT ON (more)

This week’s jam is run by Nick.

In the last Bring It On jam we got shoved into making choices we wouldn’t normally make – time jumps, Oscar moments, monologues. This week we’ll be doing all that and more – open scenes and action to encourage the best from ourselves and reinforce some of the work we’ve done with Brandon Gardner over the weekend (oo-rah!)

Really important: we are not at TAO Nottingham this week. Some friends are letting us try out a different room from usual. We’re in a nice place at 39 Stoney St, in return we’re letting them run around with video cameras while we play. Don’t worry, it’s not going live or being used anywhere. This is otherwise a jam as usual.

This week’s jam: Meet and Greet MissImp Style

Well hello there!

This week’s jam is run by David.

This week we’re meeting and greeting Mr Brandon Gardner, a fantastic improv teacher and performe from the US. Bring yourself along to say hello and get an opportunity to play with him. Please don’t break him. We’ll be playing a whole bunch of games and scenes.

This week’s jam: Scenes, scenes, scenes.

This week’s jam is run by Lloydie.

This week it’s all about doing as many scenes as possible.  There will be lots of them.  It’s the sole purpose of this week.  The more reps the better.  We will do open scenes, some scenes linked together in montages and that’s about it.  It’s total play-time so come along and play.

This week’s jam: An Improv Storyteller’s Toolkit

This week’s jam is run by Trilly.

The theme of this week’s jam is harnessing and honing our innate gift for storytelling, and looking at ways to do so in the heat of the improvised moment.

We’ll be doing a mix of games and exercises that focus on recognising, continuing, heightening, and advancing aspects of a scene that might turn it into an entertaining, captivating and perhaps even funny story.

In the quest for the long lost enchanted narrative, we will arm and array ourselves with the legendary virtues of acceptance, attentiveness and additive imagination…

On this perilous journey, we will find friend, foe and fate in the common archetypes of classical mythology…

Our adventure will culminate in a furious flourish of scenes spawned from an exercise in mind-reading…

Forget your ‘once-upon-a-times’ and ‘happily-ever-afters’ – the real story is what happens when grand designs meet grave difficulties…
