Improv Slam Winners!

Coming Upstairs?

When we received an invitation from the brand spanking new, Birmingham-based Upstairs Improv to perform in their inaugural show on 26th April 2012, we were of course thrilled and in some respects relieved. Discovering another force for improv in the sunny Midlands was somewhat like meeting someone with the same slightly strange celebrity crush as you – the one you won’t dare admit to in public. “GOD yes - I’d do that, in a heartbeat. THANK YOU.”

MissImp in Action – Friday 27th April

Back With A Vengeance

MissImp return to The Glee Club to celebrate the end of April (sure, why not?) and the beginning of summer. Yes, it will almost certainly be raining. But that won’t dampen our spirits!

This month we’re throwing Lloydie, Marilyn, Nick, Parky and David onto the stage with Geoff compereing the show. It’s set to be a fine mix of madness, wit and unique silliness. We’re bringing back some games that we haven’t played for a while that are sure to cause our players some pain, for your amusment!

Join us – nothing we do on Friday will ever happen again and we’ll be relying on your inspiring ideas and suggestions to create strange and hilarious characters, comically disturbing situations and unlikely outcomes.

Change? Do we like change? Yes.

This month (and for all shows to come) we’re on an hour later in the evening – so the doors open at 8pm now. We’re trying to remember that ourselves… It does mean some of our players get to eat before the show which is probably a good thing. It also means you get to eat and drink before the show too!

Book ahead for discounts (it’s worth it – £4.50 in advance online or £6 on the door).

Having A Ball On Friday With A Special Guest

MissImp in Action – Friday 30th March

Brandon Gardner - special guest from UCB New York

Show week is always an exciting week for MissImp peeps (and, we hope, the MissImp audience regulars).  This week is especially exciting for me for a couple of reasons.

This month’s show sees the return of some improvised songs with the awesome Pete Allot at the keyboard.  Whenever I organise a monthly show I have the same panic attacks about audience numbers, players getting ill, nuclear explosions during key moments etc.  Those always subside once the show starts.

This month I have something else to occupy my thoughts – getting a special guest improviser from New York to Nottingham.  Usually, the train between Leicester and Nottingham is enough to worry about!

Back in January 2010, in a dark, underground theatre in New York, I saw my first ever proper longform improv show.  Until this point I’d only ever seen shortform “Whose Line Is It Anyway” style improv – and I loved that.  This longform stuff where they took a word, or a few words, and then created a hilarious one hour show out of it… well, that was new to me.  The show was called “Let’s Have A Ball” and it had people I recognised from the TV show 30 Rock in it, as well as faces that were new to me.  I laughed so hard I hurt.

Special Guest!

One of those new faces was Brandon Gardner and he ended up being my improv teacher six months later.  When he said yes to joining MissImp for a show while he’s in the UK I was delighted.  When you come along this Friday, I suspect you will be delighted he’s taking to the stage too.  He’ll be the one with the American accent… the ones with British accents will be me (Lloydie), David, Trilly, Marilyn, Martin and our energetic compere Nick.

See you at The Glee Club in Nottingham on Friday night.
Doors close at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm show….
and your tickets are much cheaper when you buy them in advance, online at www.glee.co.uk

MISSIMP PEEPS:  We still need people for the door and for lights and sound (although I’m hoping we’ll have James doing his thing on sound!).  If you want to volunteer for these you’ll get a free pint after the show.  Get in touch with me ASAP to volunteer. Do invite as many friends as you can muster.  They’ll love you for it.

Call For Players

Hello MissImp peeps

We’re taking part in an exciting show in Birmingham.  It’s being run by our friends at Box Of Frogs and it will be an improv tournament between four teams (one from MissImp, one from Wow Impro in Coventry and two from Box of Frogs in Brum).

For this, we’re going to need five players.  If you’ve played in a show in the last six months then please put yourself forward…. I’m not just talking about Glee shows – if you were in that fantastic show at the Lincolnshire Poacher, it would be good to see you put yourself forward too.  It would be good to have some of our excellent newer players take part in this event so go for it.

There will be a rehearsal session so that you can get to grips with the format on Saturday 14th April – and then the show will be on the evening of Thursday April 26th.

If you can let me know of your interest asap – that’d be super fine and dandy thank you kindly.

Lloydie
