This week’s jam: Games without frontiers

This week’s improv jam is brought to you by: Parky

If looks could kill, they probably will

If you’ve ever been to a Gorilla Burger, an Interrobang or one of our Glee shows, the chances are that you have either seen or participated in some shortform games. While often not as clever, impressive or fulfilling as open scenes, silly games with silly rules can be funny – when played well.

These games have rules for a reason. Often, the rule is the shortcut to the funny – but only by committing fully to the game and to the rules will the scene work. So, this week we’ll practise some of the most popular games that we play – but we’ll do it with a purpose. What’s funny about them? What techniques can we use in other scenes? And why does totally committing to the game make it work so much better?
