Star Destroyer 19-20 March 2011

Half-Written Play Gets Two Night Run In Nottingham

A play that relies on a second half that’s entirely made-up on the spot is coming to the Nottingham Arts Theatre on 19th and 20th of March.

Star Destroyer is set in a planetarium and stars former Emmerdale actress and Gedling resident Dee Whitehead.  The story revolves around a planetarium, which is suffering due to the current economic climate and has been devised by our delightful Lloydie.

“You’ll get to know the characters very well in the first half of the play, but when it comes to the interval, everyone in the audience will have the chance to make suggestions about what they want to see in the second half.  We’ll then pick several of those out of the hat, and continue to play based on what the audience wants to see.  We have absolutely no idea how it’s going to end”.

The cast has been predominantly drawn from Nottingham’s long standing improvised comedy group MissImp who perform two monthly improv shows in the Nottingham area.

Director Martin Berry, whose credits include several West End productions, says it’s nothing like he’s ever directed.  “When you direct a comedy you have a good idea of how the piece is paced, but this show is very different.  It has some very funny characters in it, which will make some things easier in the second half, but the audience could suggest absolutely anything and we will just have to make it work.  It’s a fantastically immediate and thrilling way of approaching theatre.  The audience are very much a part of the process.”

Star Destroyer will be performed in the Studio Space at The Nottingham Arts Theatre, George Street, Nottingham on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March 2011 at 8pm.  Tickets are £10 and available from the box office on 0115 947 6096 or online at www.nottingham-theatre.co.uk
