James ‘Lloydie’ Lloyd

Lloydie joined MissImp in January 2009 and is a self-confessed improv nerd. He’s often seen in the monthly shows, runs workshop and often facilitates the weekly jam on Thursday. In 2012 Lloydie developed MissImp’s three level improv program, for which he is a regular teacher. (see the “Training” tab at the top).

In 2010 Lloydie started training at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and has made a couple of trips to train in longform improv there. In July 2012 he studied at The Annoyance Theatre under such improv legends as Mick Napier (author of the book Improvise) and Susan Messing. In Jan 2013 he began the sketch writing program of The Second City, Chicago.

In 2013 Lloydie has performed at the Del Close Marathon in New York, Chinese Menu Comedy in Washington DC, at the Brighton Fringe as a guest of The Maydays as well as regularly with MissImp in Nottingham.

Lloydie is a founder member of MissImp’s longform improv group “Fisticuffs” and in 2013 started a two-person improv collaboration with Jenny Rowe from Brighton’s improv group The Maydays.

Aside from improv, Lloydie is a broadcaster and freelances for the BBC and a variety of commercial stations. Aside from improv and broadcasting, Lloydie is also a writer and has a couple of comedy plays to his name and a blog that varies between silly and ranty (www.lloydieblog.blogspot.com) and is currently working on a book.

Aside from improv, broadcasting and writing Lloydie is also a hypnotist and NLP trainer. He has several audiobooks available on iTunes (just search the iTunes store for Lloydie), or find them at audible.com Aside from improv, broadcasting, writing and hypnotism, Lloydie also sings with a local choir (he’s a tenor).

Aside from improv, broadcas…. actually, let’s just say he’s busy and leave it at that shall we?

See Lloydie improvise with Trilly from MissImp in “The Albatross In The Room”

And with Brandon Garner from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, New York, in “Life’s Not Pharaoh”

[…] From February, if you’ve not encountered much improv before, you can sign up to our Improv Beginners  course.  If you’re a bit more experienced, we’re also offering an Improv Intermediate course.  These courses will all be taught by performers who take to the stage regularly as part of our residency at The Glee Club in Nottingham.  These first two will be taught by me, Lloydie.
