Intro to Sketch Writing
Have you ever wanted to take an idea you’ve come up with and write it to perform on stage? Maybe improvised a scene that you couldn’t stop replaying in your mind? Maybe you love Monty Python, Victoria Wood or Key and Peele? Then you’ve been bitten by the sketch bug.
This six week course is a perfect introduction to the basics of sketch comedy. Each week will look at a key concept of sketch:
- Structure of sketch comedy
- How to build comic characters
- How to create comedic action.
The course will help you develop techniques to create ideas easily; develop these ideas into full-blown sketches and how to polish a script through re writing. This is the perfect way to build your writing skills, and create scenes that hit the funny and play with it hard.
For those of you who have done improv, sketch is a perfect stepping stone in pinning down your understanding of how scenes and sketches work. This course uses a lot of the skills of improvisation to create material and by learning some sketch writing basics you can jump to the fun bits of improv a lot faster and enjoy yourself even more.
You must have access to some kind of word processor for homework assignments.
This six week course runs on Wednesday evenings 7.30-9.30. 7 March – 18 April 2018 with a break week on 28 March.
As a student of this class you also qualify for priority booking for the other workshops and teaching opportunities MissImp offers.
