Status, In and Beyond the Theatre with Laurie Owen. In this workshop we look at status, using a few solo exercises. First, we will practice playing high and low status, then shifting between the two. In the second half, we will deepen our understanding of status by noticing it in our everyday interactions, and in the way politicians speak.
I am Laurie Owen, a Theatre and Performance BA student at the University of Leeds, going into my third year in October. I’m interested in the way play helps us understand the world around us, and how improvising and trying out different roles help us develop our personal sense of self. My upcoming dissertation project aims to gain more data on the way queer identity is explored through tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons.
If you’re a MissImp regular workshop and drop-in attendee, you might like to join us in the MissImp Members group on Facebook, where tonight we’ll be enjoying some online improv via Zoom at 8.30pm (Virtually Gorilla Burger!), followed by our virtual chatting in an imaginary bar.
